Hemlock Classroom Review
May was a month full of wonder, discovery, and growth in our Montessori classroom. The children worked together to prepare the vegetable beds for planting and participated in planting, weeding, and watering the garden.
We learned about earthworms and redworms, and how they help enrich the soil by adding nutrients. Through our outdoor activities, we also explored seeds, germination, and the important role worms play in keeping soil healthy.
The children deepened their connection to nature by learning how flowers help produce fruits and vegetables. We also studied ladybugs, butterflies, and their life cycles.
In addition, we practiced earthquake and fire drills to help the children feel prepared and confident in emergency situations. The sunny days also gave us wonderful opportunities to enjoy outdoor lunches together.
It has been a joyful and active month filled with meaningful learning. Thank you for sharing your children with us each day. We are excited to see what June will bring!
Buckeye Classroom Review
This month of May brought beautiful weather, and we were excited to begin gardening with the children! Together we weeded the garden beds, spread compost, and planted many different seedlings. Our garden now includes tomatoes, pumpkins, cucumbers, kale, peppers, lettuce, sugar snap peas, sweet peas, marigolds, calendula, arugula, and strawberries. The children have continued helping care for the garden by watering and weeding, and they are eagerly looking forward to harvesting the fruits, vegetables, and flowers as they grow.
We also had a very special visit from Layla’s parents and their dog, Hudson. The children enjoyed an outdoor circle time where they learned about caring for a dog, including how to gently brush Hudson and give him treats. It was such a fun and meaningful experience for everyone.
In the classroom, we have been learning about the ladybug life cycle and the parts of a seed as part of our spring studies and nature exploration.
We also introduced a new Practical Life work where the children practice spreading jam, peanut butter, or cream cheese onto bread or crackers. This work has been very popular and helps strengthen independence, coordination, and concentration.
Another wonderful part of the warm spring weather is having the opportunity to bring Montessori work outdoors and enjoy lunch outside on warm days. The children have loved spending extra time learning and connecting with nature.
As we move toward the end of the school year, we are looking forward to all the excitement that summer brings. We can’t wait to continue watching our garden grow, spend more time learning outdoors, and enjoy the many special moments that come with the warmer weather. Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us this season — it has been such a joyful and rewarding month in the classroom.
